Guest speakers:
1) Kathy Peters, BSc.Bio,BSc.OT, MBA(c)
Knowing the Person Behind the Behaviours: Overcoming a Complex Health System for Older Adults with Cognitive Impairment
Kathy Peters is the Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) Strategic Lead for the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant (HNHB) Local Health Integration Network. Kathy has supported the BSO Strategy through strategic planning, project implementation, measurement, and continuous quality improvement initiatives that span across community, acute, and long-term care settings. Kathy has developed new quality care initiatives within the acute care setting that supports patients with cognitive impairment and responsive behaviours, and this work has been recognized as an Honour Roll recipient for the 2016 Minister’s Medal, Health Quality Ontario. Kathy is also completing research with the McMaster-Stone Church Family Health Team on the Feasibility and Effectiveness of a Primary Care Toolkit for Medical Learners for early identification, assessment and treatment of patients with Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms Associated with Dementia.
2) Joseph M. Ducharme, Ph.D., C. Psych.
The Errorless Approach: A Proactive Model for Short- and Long-term Remediation of Child Problem Behaviour
Joe Ducharme is an associate professor in the School and Clinical Child Psychology Program at the University of Toronto (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education). His primary research focus is the development and evaluation of proactive and non-punitive interventions for remediation of child problem behaviour in classroom and home-based settings. He has published widely on his intervention research involving a broad range of clinical populations, including children with serious conduct difficulties, developmental disabilities, acquired brain injuries and witnesses of family violence.
