    Rick and Amanda Hansen Mark 100 Years of Physical Therapy at U of T

    Canada’s Man in Motion details how physical therapy kept him moving.

    Hear the behind-the-scenes stories of a Canadian legend and the physical therapist who helped him make history — and help us mark 100 years of impact.

    Rick and Amanda join Chair Darlene Reid, Faculty of Medicine Dean Trevor Young, as well as fellow alumni, faculty and friends to celebrate of the Department of Physical Therapy’s 100th anniversary.

    Rick Hansen is a Canadian icon who has dedicated his life to creating a world that is accessible and inclusive for all. Best known as the “Man In Motion” for undertaking an epic two-year year 40,000 km journey around the world in his wheelchair, Rick is also a three-time world champion, nine-time Pan Am gold medalist, three-time Paralympic gold medalist, and now the Founder & CEO of the Rick Hansen Foundation, an organization committed to creating a world without barriers for people with disabilities.


    Amanda Hansen shares her husband’s determination to turn big dreams into reality, and brings that energy to the Rick Hansen Foundation board. Amanda has a particular passion for children’s issues serving as Director of the Rick Hansen School Program from 2002 – 2006, Honourary Spokesperson and board member for Kids Help Phone (BC), Co-host of the Children's Miracle Network Telethon, and chair of her local Parent Advisory Committee. Amanda returned to her professional roots and is currently working as the sole charge physiotherapist at Richmond Lions Manor, a residential care facility where she works with an aging population and on a specialized Alzheimers unit. 

    Rick and Amanda live in Steveston, B.C. and have three daughters and two grandsons.
