For almost 100 years, street design in Toronto has focused on moving motor vehicles as efficiently as possible. More recently, important urbanists have influenced the redesign of our streets with new models like shared space and complete streets. In this talk, Professor Hess will discuss the evolution of these new models, including speculations on how the adoption of autonomous vehicles may affect street design and urban walkability.
