Dr. G. David Adamson, Adjunct Professor, Stanford University and CEO,
Advanced Reproductive Care (ARC), received two degrees from U of T, a
B.Sc. from Trinity College in 1969 and his MD in 1973. Adamson is an
internationally recognized reproductive endocrinologist and surgeon who
has lectured and published extensively on his fields of expertise.
Shoshana M. (Mira) Berger, Freelance Journalist, Founder and former
Editor in Chief, ReadyMade graduated from U of T with a MA in English
in 1994. Besides her work with the award winning ReadyMade magazine,
Berger co-authored The ReadyMade Book: How to Make Almost Everything,
and has had work featured in The New York Times, Popular Mechanics, and
other leading publications.
Professor Robert J. Birgeneau, Chancellor, University of California, Berkeley, completed his B.Sc. in mathematics at St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto in 1963. An internationally distinguished physicist, Professor Birgeneau is one of the most cited physicists in the world for his work on the fundamental properties of materials. On July 1, 2000, he became the University of Toronto’s 14th president
Janet Currie, Economics Department Chair, Columbia University and Sami
Mnaymneh Professor of Economics, Columbia University, received B.A. in
1982 and a M.A.in Economics in 1983.
R. (Robert) Bruce Gray, Film, Television and Theatre Actor, graduated from the University of Toronto with a B.A. from Victoria College in 1959 and a M.Sc. in Psychology in 1960. Mr. Gray is best known to Canadian audiences for his award winning portrayal of Adam Cunningham on the hit TV series Traders
Dr. Arthur Hillier, Movie Director, received a B.A. in 1947 and M.A. in
Psychology in 1950. He has directed more than 30 feature films and has
worked in the industry since the 1950s.
Elvira Kurt, Comedian and Television Performer, graduated from St.
Michael’s College at the University of Toronto in 1984 with a Bachelor
of Science. Kurt currently a judge on The Second City’s Next Comedy
Legend and is a frequent guest on CBC Radio.
Walter Kohn, Professor Emeritus, Physics, University of California, Santa Barbara graduated from the University of Toronto with a B.A. in 1945 and a M.A. in applied mathematics in 1946. In 1998, Dr. Kohn shared the Nobel Prize for chemistry with John Pople. Kohn received his award for his development of density-functional theory in quantum chemistry, for which he used powerful computer techniques.
R. James Martin, Producer, Screenwriter and Co-Owner, High Treason
Productions, graduated from U of T in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts in
English and Philosophy from St. Michael’s College. Martin has five
feature screen plays to his name and produced several plays for the
Graduate Theater while studying at U of T.
John P. Rochon, Founder and Chairman, Richmond Holdings, received an
MBA from UofT’s Rotman School of Management. Rochon is also the
Chairman and principal shareholder of Nu-kote International, a leading
manufacturer of printer supplies.
Dr. Jeff Skoll, Founder and Chairman, Skoll Foundation, received his
B.A.Sc. in electrical engineering in 1987 and an Honorary LL.D. in
2003, from the University of Toronto. Skoll is also the founder of
Participant Productions, a global media company that produces
entertainment to inspire and compel social change. In 2007, one of the
company’s films, An Inconvenient Truth, received two Academy Awards.
Barry Toyonaga, Chief Business Officer, Kent BioEnergy Corporation,
received a B.Sc. in 1978 and in 1984 a Ph.D. in physical organic
chemistry from the University of Toronto. As a postdoctoral fellow at
the Ontario Cancer Institute, he was involved in the discovery of the
human T Cell receptor.
Eric Weider, President & CEO, Weider Health and Fitness, graduated
with an M.B.A. from the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of
Management in 1988. A life-long history enthusiast, in 2004 he created
the Weider History Group, and publishes 11 history magazines, including
World War II, Military History, American History, Wild West, Vietnam,
and Armchair General, a bi-monthly publication devoted to all aspects
of American history.
Graham Yost, Screenwriter and Producer, received a B.A. from Trinity College in 1980. Mr. Yost shot to international prominence in 1994 with the script for the hit film Speed.
